Cultivation of Art in Black Diamond

On Friday through Sunday, June 24-26, Vales Greenhouse in Black Diamond plays host to a fabulous weekend of art featuring 40 local artist and their work, ranging from wearable fabrics and silver jewelery to paintings, pottery and woodworking. The event takes place in the naturally beautiful venue all three days from 9:00am – 5:00pm. On Saturday, the 25th, meet the artists personally at the artist reception, held from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. DIAMOND VALLEY PARADE & DISCOVERY DAYS

Pack up the kids and some lawnchairs and head to the towns of Black Diamond and Turner Valley for a terrific June weekend of celebration and entertainment. We have ordered in a warm, sunny weekend and will be kicking the festivities off on Friday, June 3, 2011 with a charity BBQ from 11am to 2pm and the annual Turner Valley Fun Run for all ages at 6pm. On Saturday, June 4th at 10am sharp, Black Diamond hosts the best small town parade around, with 2006 Olympic Silver Medalist, Jason Parker as our honorary Parade Marshall. Every seat is a good one! Lots of music, horses, floats and fun. The parade is followed by an entire day of activities, food and great buys in both communities, including a Merchants’ Festival, Antique Classic Show N’ Shine, BBQ, farmers’ Market, exhibits, magicians and entertainers, hay wagon rides, a petting zoo, a bake sale, book sale and plant sale, to name a few. There will be an autograph signing with Olympic Medalist, Jason Parker and to top the evening off, Turner Valley will provide the fireworks for the grand finale. Calgary Girls Choir

Our next concert will be the Calgary Girls Choir, under the direction of Elaine Quilichini, is one of Canada’s most dynamic and award-winning ensembles. Over the years, the choir has earned a stellar reputation in the choral community, gaining recognition and acclaim for its brilliant performances and many accomplishments. Experience the musical magic of these young and delightful voices.

Our initial exhibition brings together a collection of works by emerging and mid-career Alberta artists that will be featured in Evanescence Gallery and Art Studio throughout the coming year. We are very pleased to present this preview of exceptional artist’s works which celebrate originality and creativity through a variety of media including photography, painting, pottery, book arts, textiles and jewllery.

 

Diamond Valley Christmas Country Style

Here is an update to the Diamond Valley Christmas Light-up in Black Diamond, AB on November 27, 2010. It has expanded! It has become a two day event involving both the Towns of Turner Valley and Black Diamond. This should surely get you into the Christmas spirit. The event begins on Friday, November 26th, 4:30pm-8:30pm, at the Flare & Derrick, on Main Street in Turner Valley, AB, with a Christmas Market, featuring local crafts, artisans, kitchen creations and lots of food. It opens again on Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm and offers childminding. Family activities include visiting with Santa, wagon rides, ice skating and much more. Children can mail their letters off to Santa as well. Donations to the Food Bank would be greatly appreciated. At 5:00pm, make your way over to Black Diamond, where the whole town will turn on the Christmas lights at the same time. Santa will arrive, as well as his pettable reindeer.  Live Christmas music and carolers will be all about town. Horse drawn wagons will transport one and all around to see the lights and visit the different shopping districts.  Merchants will stay open late with offerings of goodies, specials and Light-up Passports providing a chance to win some great gifts. Mark down November 27th on your calendar! It is the official day this year of the Diamond Valley Christmas Light-up in Black Diamond, AB. Festivities will begin at 5:00 pm sharp! If you need a parking spot, come early.

As a bit of a sneak preview, I will confirm that Santa and his real live reindeer will again be gracing our town light-up with their presence.

We will also continue tradition with horse drawn wagon rides around the town. Businesses will be open late and there will be plenty of hot treats to keep the chills away.
